Mr Eing.: 31.MRZ.1942 Oberreg.-Rat Dr. G i e s Prag/CzerninPalais - - -- - - -- - - copy of the accompanying transcript, I hereby refer to the letter by Mr Dipl.- Ing. F.Schmelzer dated 24 March 1942 to the State Secretary K.H.Frank. It is also accompanied by a copy of a certificate issued by me to Mr. Dipl.-Ing. Schmelzer that he has duly registered in Prague after his dismissal from the military. Furthermore, I refer to the note of 15.11.41-II/1-2195/41- and the letter of the Business Group dated 22.1.42 - II/1-15oo/42-+ submitted to the Secretary of State on the matter. To facilitate the handling of the matter, copies of these last communications are attached. It seems to me that finding a melter in the protectorate is extremely difficult. Mr. Schmelzer is, after training, a miner, but after practical activity, a fuel chemist. The most sensible use of a gasoline synthesis plant in Altrich would be because such plants do not exist in the Protectorate and he actually has experience in this field. Furthermore, Mr. Schmelzer does not attach any importance to a very practical mining occupation, which is understandable in his physical constitution, since daily mine journeys in the thin seams prevailing in the Protectorate are likely to be difficult for him. If not special reasons for the use of Mr. Dipl.-Ing.Schmelzer in the protectorate, the M.E. I would suggest that it be made available to the Reichswirtschaftsministerium for use in the petrol synthesis industry, where such forces are urgently needed.
