sitting at the conference table of the peace conference In the letter of October I942, mentioned above, he says literally: Cant When the Poles encountered difficulties in London because of Katyn, he immediately broke his negotiations with them about the creation of a Czech-Polish confederation after the war and went to Washington. There he had informed the American statesmen about the true situation in Europe, had themselves celebrated and tried to bring about a solution to the Slovak problem, which was so difficult for him, with the Slovaks living in America. In order to obtain a ticket to the UDssR for the planned Rei- meffofre se in Moscow, he proclaimed in all his speeches the closest cooperation with the Soviet Union. Moscow has, by the way, not taken any note of this, as in all of his trip to the USA. Beneš's trip to the United States of North America has been noted with interest by the Czech people of the Protectorate, but political effects have not been noticed by the broad masses who have been so often disappointed by Beneš ́s promises and professions. However, it is extremely sceptical to play Beneš's game with Moscow in this respect and strongly opposed to it in the nerds. The Czech people are essentially anti-Bolshevist as a people of peasants and petty-citizens.
