English Translation
Pö/Re translation. Böhmisch Budweis, 14 Sept.39. Hochwerte episcopal Konsistorialräte in Böhm.Budweis. At your request of September 13, 1939, I answer to my priestly honor as follows: The sermon I gave in Teschen on September 3, 1939 is a missionary sermon on the Virgin Mary, the painful Our Lady, which I have been preaching on the missions since 1935. In the sermon I have mentioned nothing at all about the current political situation. I did not mention the word nation, fatherland of Bohemia, Czechs, etc., which could only partially characterise a national sermon. I also had no intention of holding a national homily. The only goal of my sermon in Teschen was to inspire the practical trust, respect and love of Our Lady in the hearts of the listeners, among whom were many who did not otherwise go to church, because I consider only this to be the safest means of abolishing lukewarmness in the heart of Catholics. And finally, I did not preach nationally or ambiguously, because such sermons were strictly forbidden by the pre-set church princes and as a priest I am used to listening to the word and obeying it without circumventing the command. For information I cite a. exact and detailed structure of the sermon as I have kept it in Teschen. Subject: The Mother, the rich in pain: these words clearly indicate why Christians so honor and love the Virgin Mary and why the Virgin gives such help to Christians. I. The Mother: /e Mother and Child love each other most. This applies not only to the relationship of the earthly Mother to the Child, but also to the relation of the Mother Gotes to us. b/ The mother understands the child best. Our heavenly mother also understands us best. c/ The Mother wants the happiness of the child, therefore the Virgin Mary is also "the healing of the sick, and the refuge of sinners and the comforter of the suffering! (Taken from the Loretto-Litany. Here I have remembered the miracles of physical recovery and the striking turn of stubborn sinners).
