No. 3633 2/.c.d. 50/9.40 Very esteemed Mr. State Secretary! I do not want to give you the impression that I have occasionally received the 60o celebration in Pardubitz this Sunday. For ll a.m. there was a festive meeting of the city council in the presence of the population and many honorary guests - a total of 1 200 persons - at which, according to the wishes of the Pardubitzer Oberlandrat, we Germans were to appear accordingly. For this reason, I had been promoted as a speaker of the German side.At the same time, I took over the representation of the City of Prague. The number of German participants, especially represented by members of the Wehrmacht, was by no means small.First of all, the celebration took place in the German-Czech mixed style. Also my remarks, in which I strongly emphasized the German side of Pardubitzer history and pointed out the need for close cooperation between both nationalities, were received in a friendly manner. Immediately after me, as a representative of the Association of Czech Self-Governmental Bodies, the former state committee member Kypr from Prague spoke. His speech was fulfilled with a plethora of allusions and tips against our German claims. For him, Pardubitz is only the centre of pure Czech life and an example of the fruits of persistent Czech work. Emphatically, he reminded us of the great Czech history and, moreover, presented his speech in an excitingly provocative tone. The final result: stormy applause from the Czechs present. For us Germans, the situation was embarrassing enough.
