8V - 3 - II, Czech cultural and community life. 1. Cultural activity. Also in the month of April the extensive cultural event activity of the Czechs continued. In the musical field the Dvořák memory is still in the foreground. The accumulation of cultural events was in some places so large that even from the Czech side a moderation was occasionally recommended. Thus the newspaper "A-Zet pro český severozápad" of 24 April 1941 wrote under the heading "Something about the necessity for the sweetening of the velen events in Schlan": In Schlan, too, the cultural events have recently increased in such a way that one of the other competitors makes. In the period from last Friday to next Saturday, an important cultural event takes place here every second day, but hardly the desired request will be expected. If the cinemas and other entertainment venues are added, then the reduction of cultural events by their own means is actually necessary". As a useful means of centralising and shaping Czech cultural life, especially in the country, Czechs are currently trying to promote the construction of cultural houses. The aim is to increase the cultural interest of the Czech rural population and thus to give it a deeper Czech national consciousness. Moreover, the cultural houses are to be regarded as strongholds of Czech social life and permanent care centres for the consolidation of national Czechism. The construction of permanent cultural sites in the countryside, which are to include children's gardens in addition to lecture and cinema halls, libraries and reading halls, has already begun, even in small communities, with disproportionately large expenditures. The necessary funds are usually provided by rural financial institutions (raiffisen-Kassen, agricultural credit cooperatives), not least by autonomous authorities; in some cases they are linked to construction.
