It is reported that on 17 May 1942 at 15.30 o'clock a German schooler named Winfried O g u r e k from the KLV camp "Recovery home in Podiebrad" drowned in the Elbe near the lock in Podibrad. Winfried Ogurek, together with Heinz Meyer and Gunther Bottcher, all three from the same camp in Podiebrad, towed a boat from the banks of the Elbe river above the lock into the water and tried to drive the boat on the Elbe, using only 2 stucco boards instead of standing oars.
