L Iv/2 Pro sbuinisteramt Prague, 12 July 1944 17 JULY 1944 Molay Obappo fuf ertraulfch fifrhy all Zulfubarrf w.. L. heuntesufes byy ver. Situation in the accommodation sector on 1.7.1944. Gulf (cf. Preliminary Report of 22.3.1944) I. The overall situation has continued to deteriorate considerably. Mel R improvement is not to be expected in the foreseeable future. The Circular of the Secretary of State for Tourism of 29 June 1944, annexed in the print, describes similar conditions in parts of the rest of the Reich. The further tightening of the situation has occurred mainly due to the following circumstances: 1.) The bed requirement for meetings and events has continued to increase. While for these purposes in February only 1944 bed days, in the Mlirz 3528 bed days were taken in Aneprüch, in June a total of 4023 bed days of Iv/2 were made available. 2.) The Waffen-SS had strong influx by establishing a junker school in Prague. She asked for constant use of about 200 hotel rooms, which could be provided after many difficulties. 3.) The Wehrmacht - without informing me - has gone over to confiscating a large number of rooms in a number of medium and good hotels, surveying women are still in progress. This not only resulted in a sudden lack of these rooms in our dispositions, but also resulted in some hotels up to 40% being permanently occupied with Wehrmascht. The important thing here is that the Wehrmacht pays only a relatively low price on the basis of the Reichsleistungsgeset, which is partly less than half the normal room price in the A-hotels. The resulting substantial reduction in income for the hotel owners concerned led to serious upsets. The Wehrmacht would therefore have to be prompted to adhere more to the B- and C-hotels. It would be even better if such decisions were only agreed by M.M-10a/44
