56 - 3 - In so far as it was agreed in the meeting of the 14.7 d.J. in Witkowitz in the presence of the Chairman of the Arms Commission, Major General Hernekamp, and the Armaments Committee, Dr. Adolf, that they would speed up their examination, in agreement with Hernecamp, of whether workers for the munitions production in the South could be withdrawn from less important productions. I also mentioned this in my telex of 15 July and took note of the fact that you, together with the chairman of the Arms Commission, would soon arrange for the next. It is therefore not possible to speak of a delay with regard to the Schmidt case in this respect. I am still standing by my statement that objections should not be raised against a change in the management of the Witkowitzer Eisenwerke. I therefore agree with the fact that Director-General Kuchinka will be replaced by another appropriate person, and I assume, in accordance with your assurance, that no person from another part of the Reich will be appointed for this purpose. On my part, I propose, after consultation with the Gauleitung Sudetenland, the director Dr. Schicketanz, who is currently employed at the Berg- und Hüttenwerkgesellschaft in Teschen, who I know as an outstanding expert on space and the economy. Dr. Schicketanz would also fulfil the political conditions which must be observed in the present case. He could replace Kuchinka in all functions, i.e. both as a trade director and as a managing director. In this case, Dr.Schmidt would be viable as a supervisor - with the same powers as Dr.Möhring.
