73 Interview of the President of the Staff with journalists on 15:March 1943. On the questions submitted to the President during the interview by the various journalists present, the President replied as follows: "You have touched, I think, a few of the most serious problems of our position in Říž and in Europe as well as our own inner life. You are right to take the view that the measure for a place in the sun in a new Europe will be for the nations, as well as for the individual usefulness and indispensability of them. I reminded this fact already in my Christmas speech in l94O. We therefore want to be a nation in the world and for all our futures a useful and unfailing War, which we are experiencing, is now escalating in the struggle of the traditional West, represented - as in history - by the nation of Germany, against the Athian despotism of the East, represented by the fan-tical Bolshevism. Thus, the measure of our usefulness today is all we bring for the common cause of the Empire, fighting to save the West. You ask whether we do enough on this side, or if our share can be escalated and how we should face the invaders. For the first time of the war, the benefits could already be seen in the fact that by adopting imperial protection, we made it impossible for our countries to take advantage of Germany, and that we were looking in all the fields for the sake of self-sufficiency so that the Empire and Europe would not have to assign us to passive countries. According to the Fuhrer's will, our share of the work front was defined at home and in other territories of the Reich. The respective positions did not leave good results without recognition, and the recent opening - the words of Mr.K.H.Frank mean important proof of advancing consolidation for all of us, as you rightly recall. And now we are entering a period of increased labor; here we are dealing with real sacrifices that will bring many nude members to the common European cause. Let us learn from the beginning to truly honor these workers, the results of their work will come to the good of the whole nation. Of course, under these circumstances, it would not be possible to take account of any disruptors of our public circumstances, whether they belong to any part of our society.
