99 19 December 194o. St.S. VII D 2b. SO DES 10NO Grants of the protectorate government to the various churches in the Protectorate. Hies. Letter of 14.1o.194o - without sign. To the staff of the deputy of the Pührer, Munich 33, 9.X. 1940 Braunes Haus. On the relevant matter, I have received a report from the SD section of Prague, which I am referring to for the sake of interest and which has the following word: "After statements by various Czech clergymen, the Archbishop's administration in Budweis has spread the following rumor among the Czech clergy of the diocese there: "With effect from 1.1.1941, a separation of church and state will take place in the Protectorate. This means that all clergymen will no longer receive the state subsidy for their salary, Of all the faithful a church tax of Rl 8.- per capita will be levied. This is to be done at the order of the German offices. By doing so, they want the Czech people to leave the Roman Catholic Church." Observations have shown that for this reason, trusting assemblies of priests were held by individual Vicariates in southern Bohemia, in which they were informed of the alleged fact." Hail Hitler! Superior Council. Please turn!
