- 2 - to a further stay of the Fr. in his position as of course not possible. As much as was known here, Fr. is currently trying to reach a different cultural-political position in Prague or Berlin. It seems necessary to ensure that Fr. remains excluded from a cultural-policy leading activity in the Protectorate. The claim made in this context that Fr. was previously checked by the SD and described as bearable has been found to be incorrect. As much as has become known here, Fr. apparently went to Berlin on his own initiative after the establishment of the Protectorate and was heard by the secret state police there. During the discussion of the question of the successor for Fr. was mentioned by the Gaukulturamt in Reichenberg Dr. Franz L o r e n z, who from 1926 to the summer of 1938 was the editor at the Catholic "German Press" in Prague. Lorenz took in his predominantly cultural articles in this newspaper a katholishvjegenlich opposed the Vatican. He came from the Staffelstein circle and became known as a poet of amateur plays. With the German lite- rature he mainly dealt with the way in which he carefully researched Catholic traits. On the whole he must be described as a clerically influenced cultural politician. Lorenz, because of his catholic basic position as successor to Franzel, does not appear to be acceptable in the management of the Deutsche Volksbildungsstätte. In addition, his professional competence must be questioned for this position, since he is a little representative and little moved person, who is more the type of a silent scholar. It therefore seems necessary to prevent Dr. Lawrence from entrusting himself with this position which is important for the cultural policy of Prague Germanism. fifuu 3-Upper tower forgings
