202 Confidential Report on the Works of the Volksdeutsche Archivverwaltung (V.A.) 1938/39 In the year under review, the work of the V. A. continued to be carried out according to schedule in pursuit of its objective of creating a collection of documents on the development of the people's German problems in a register. The concentration of the popular political events in the past period increased demands on the activities of the V.A.. In the organizational field it is noted that by appointment as the representative of the People's Federation for Germandom abroad for the VA. Dr.Albrecht Haushofer took over the chair in the Kura- rium of the VIA. In addition to the cooperation of the employees (Dr.Ammon,Graf Stamati,Fr.Schlüter,Frl.Leissling), an institution created in agreement with the VDA has proved itself well, namely the allocation of scholarships from the academic offspring of the ethnic groups for their own training and assistance work; so far six people's German comrades have been assigned to the V.A. Through the continuation of the processing of the archives provided to the V.A. and the collection of further archives, the scope of the material considered for the tasks of the V,A. could be extended in terms of quantity and value. In this regard, it should be noted first of all that the Office of the Reichsstatthalter issued a grateful decree to the state archives of the Ostmark of 2.8.1938 with the request for support for the work of the V.A. The number of archives used or envisaged for the exploitation has increased to approx.30. In the year under review, the construction work led to an increase in the stocks of the V.A. file from approx. 53.o00 to more than 76,000 cards (classification of the file). According to its most important provision, the material collected could be largely evaluated by providing documentation to support the day-to-day struggle for the people outside.
