24. V.1942/168 Prague, June 1942 A b t e i l u'n g I 3 g - 1035/6740 Strictly confidential! To the Secretary of State Subject: Results of the livestock census of 3 June 1942 According to the preliminary result of the cattle census, which covered all livestock farmers and took place at the beginning of June the year, 1,34 million pigs or about 300 000, 2.2 million pigs were found in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. Cattle or about 100 000 and ll0 000 sheep or about 36 000 more than in the same period of the previous year. Goats were counted 1.15 million, i.e. approximately 30% more than at the last census in December 1941. Although the censuses are currently being carried out with the greatest accuracy and a 5% error limit was expected for the September 1994 censuses, it is clear that the pigs= and livestock populations have not yet been able to develop structurally due to the necessary interventions. By nature, the pig population has decreased by 100,000 compared with March 1942 for Sai sons and as a result of the ban on the feeding of potatoes; but in the autumn of 1942 it is expected to increase again, but an equally large Swiss population will not be expected, since the number of sows is smaller than in the previous year and the high pig population in the fall of 1941 was also caused by the large intakes from the area of the kingdom (about 200,000). In the case of cattle, only young cattle have increased, while dairy cows have decreased as a whole.
