The Head of Division Vy Prague, July 5, 1943 No. V/Stat. - 858/6740 Strictly confidential ! 0 A Mr. 8898 State Secretary. Subject: Summer cattle census on June 3, 1943 In the summer cattle census, which took place on June 3. the year before, approximately 2,21 million cattle were counted, as at the same time as the previous year and hardly less than in peace years. In particular, cow herds in the same period of the previous year decreased by 5 % and by 1 % to December 1942, oxen, slaughter animals, 1 to 2=year-old farmed animals and 3 guinea fowls up to not yet 1 year-old young livestock, which is to be welcomed with regard to the strained feed supply situation as well as the first simultaneous increase in the number of calves, which are of great importance for the addition of the dairy herd. It is clear, however, that the cattle farmers are striving to keep the cattle herds at peace level despite the extremely tense feed supply situation. 1.61 million pigs were counted or 17% of the annual increase in the pregnant breeding sows was remarkable. the more than 1 year old pregnant breeding sows against December 1942 increased by 16%, against June 1942 even by 33%, obviously as a result of the unbound piglets prices, which particularly promote the breeding of piglets. Due to the current breeding sowing population, a further increase in the pig population is to be expected by autumn 1943. The pig population, provided that the development is not affected by economic policy interventions, can be found on the basis of the available documentation on the expected piglets, slaughters and other discharges to 3.9.1943 to ιM-140b/42 667
