The Head of Division V Prague, 4 October 1943 No. v/Stat. - 1327/6740 Strictly confidential. To Obergruppenführer Minister of State Frank Subject: Swine census on 3 September 1943 In the pig census carried out by the Central Statistical Office on 3 Sept. 1943, 1,9l million pigs were counted. As a result, the pig population increased by around 300 000 in June of the year, reaching a record level, as it was achieved only twice in the last 20 years of peace. Compared to the same period of the previous year, some 340 O00 pigs are more present. The piglets with 80 000, the young pigs (8 weeks to year old) with 1880 000 and the pigs for fattening with about 40 000 are part of this increase. Unfortunately, as a result of the small potato harvest, the pigs cannot be reduced as it would be in the interests of meat supply and meat deliveries to the Reich. The results for the determination of the delivery quotas and for the recording of pigs for fattening shall be made available to the competent authorities. The report shall be drawn up in agreement with the Food and Agriculture Division.
