As far as possible, the permitted maximum speeds for steam operation were further increased, as well as on a number of routes the permissible maximum axle pressure and the maximum permissible weight on the running metres of the wagons. A new "list of axle pressures" was prepared. The railway administration participated in the work of the Bohemian Moravian Normalization Company to the same extent as before. It evaluated the favorable results and experiences of the Reich normalization. For renewals of the railway superstructure the main lines were considered for operation. In spite of the delay caused by the long winter at the beginning of the work, the work plan was able to be adhered to and the planned work completed on time. On the lines, whose importance — especially for transit traffic with the Reich — has increased, heavier types of railway superstructures have been laid than before. At the same time, the reinforcement of steel structures has been begun. In 1940, the vehicle was supplemented by more powerful locomotives and new locomotives, passenger and freight wagons. By replacing some locomotives with the management of the Slovak state railways, a greater standardization of the locomotive classes was achieved. The newly delivered locomotives were perfected by facilities that increase the profitability of their operation. The new passenger cars were made of welded steel; their design was improved in such a way that even at speeds of more than 100 kilometers per hour a quiet run is ensured. Also the heating of the passenger cars was further improved. The alignment of the vehicle park to that of the Deutsche Reichsbahn is in progress. The repair works had to complete an extended work programme as a result of the higher operating performance and the resulting greater seizure of damaged vehicles. In addition to their own planned work, the BMB's repair works also carried out major repairs to locomotives of the Deutsche Reichsbahn and the Slovak state railways, due to special agreements. In the material storage and procurement service, despite the difficulties caused by the war conditions, it was possible to supplement the stocks in a planned and timely manner and thus to provide for the needs of the plant. Waste and existing materials were carefully collected and led to recovery. In the statistical service the work on adapting the statistical surveys to those of the Reich and the DR was continued.
