58 A b c h r i f t . Excerpt from the decree of the High Command of the Wehrmacht dated 11.12.1939. A b k o m m e n between the High command of the German Wehrmight and the German Association of Cash registers on the medical treatment of prisoners of war and security guards outside the prison camps. 1.) The medical treatment of prisoners of war and guards who are out of the prison camps on a working comman- dation, is carried out if possible by the siting doctors of the armed forces. 2.) In cases in which sckhe is not present or to be reached, the health insurance association of Germany (KVD) ensures medical certification. In these cases, treatment is carried out by the nearest resident health insurance or medical practitioners who are required by the KVD to carry out health insurance. 3.) In the event of incapacity for work or of a longer period of need for treatment, the medical examiners shall be sent to the main camp (Stalag) by the treating physician. If this is not possible due to excessive distance or for other reasons, transfer to the nearest hospital, in case of life-threatening conditions, to the next civilian hospital. (pp. 4.) If treatment is claimed on the basis of this declaration, the doctor must be sent the transfer certificate of the relevant work command immediately at the first request.
