The municipalities of Schöllschitz, Mödritz and Morbes, bordering the 'city border, are also still almost exclusively German. The population figures are as follows: 1890 1910 1920 1930 D. Tsch D.Tsch Dch D. Cch. Tch. Schöllschitz 981 3 1024 1 955 102 981 123 Mödritz 1441 446 2121 54 1592 619 0801 701 Morbes 464 96 558 45 478 122 538 165 From these German municipalities the bridge is to be closed to the German Reich border. The two southern points of interest have to form the places on the German Reich border Groß Seelowitz and Kanitz, which both formerly always had a considerable German minority, in the years before 1880 even a German majority; at present they have only a fraction of the old German population. The population figures in Groß Seelowitz are as follows: 1910 1920 1930 D.Tsch. D. Tsch. d. Tch. 1171 1327 2292286 175 2545 From these figures it can be seen how extraordinary the Beutschtum in Groß Selowitz was weakened immediately after the founding of the Czechoslovak state. It can probably be explained by the fact that the rule of Great Seelowitz, which until 1918 was owned by the Imperial Family, became Czech state domain in 1919 with the consequence that the German succession of the domain was replaced by a Czech one, The State domain Grcß Seeloitz, which today is under German administration, covers an area of about 4000 hectares. Part of the farms belonging to the domain (1975 ha) are leased by the Gödinger sugar group (Stoupal Group), which also operates the Groß Seelowitzer sugar factory.
