Among the German population, there is still deep dismay at the demise of J-Obergruppenführer Heydrich, since one had the hope of a bald recovery before, because of the lack of further intensified measures so far, the fear is shown in more and more circles that there could be no more vigorous intervention against the Czechs and that one would "show oneself too soft again above" (oLB Kladno). One is firmly convinced, mainly in scattered German areas, that if the pressure were to drop or if the civil state of emergency were to be lifted or the court rulings stopped, the Czechs would again fall into open hostility to German as before. Although the German population has been completely disciplined so far, it is quite prepared to exercise a kind of self-justice and to beat up chauvinist Czechs and intellectuals (Iglau, Moravian-Ostrava, etc.).
