As they initially felt that the leader of the upper group had not been harmed life-threateningly, the news of his death left the deepest impression. At the announcement the workers spontaneously rose from their seats and stayed for some time in silent memory. They then decided on their own initiative to send a telegram to the liaison office of the Reich Protector to the trade unions in Bohemia and Moravia, for transmission to the competent office. In this telegram they expressed their participation in the death and condemnation of the attack and promised to contribute to the victory of the Great German Empire through increased employment. Characteristic of the mood of these workers, who were in the past almost exclusively Marxist, is the following incident: When the commissioner they had chosen wanted to read the telegram to the representative of the liaison office present before the assembled workers, he was so moved that he could not speak, he had tears in his eyes and had to step away. The other workers also showed a deep feeling. The radio broadcast from the accommodation of these Czech workers was greatly respected in the OLB Iglau both in German and Czech working class circles.
