32) Hlinka,1)Andreas, Slovak party leader,*Cerno 2h (Slovakia) 29 Sept. 1864, cath. priest, became the founder and head of the clerical Slovak People's Party (also called Hlinkah Party) and its newspaper »Slovák« in Bratislava, the founder of 148 Slovak national consciousness. Under the Hungarian rule, he was imprisoned between 1906 and 1910. After the Jusambruch of the Danube monarchy, he demanded autonomy for Slovakia in the name of the Czechoslovak state; he initially supported in alliance with the Czech clerical. People's Party the Prague government, but in 1921 joined his autonomous political party in the sharpest opposition, until he feit again in 1926 behind the mixed-national Mi- nisterium Svehla (until the end of 1929).
