Schmelzer spoke to me in order to submit his documents personally and to provide the necessary explanations. I read part of the extensive documents in his reply in order at the same time to make a point by point. In response to my repeated question, whether the information he gave was actually correct, Pg. Schmelzer always explained to me how he had heard the individual statements from the persons mentioned. It would not be absolutely necessary to make these remarks glau- nen, but rather to check the accuracy of the statements by an examination. In no case would Schmelzer forward his documents to the relevant district management or even to the local group for investigation, since neither the district head nor the local head of the group would have dared to step against the Pg. von Bardeleben.
