6n - 2 - cession of Slovakia. It was the logical result of the Munich agreement. Hitler became Lord of Bohemia. He was prepared to start a war at the same time in Europe. I fully understand the reasons which led France and England to the desire not to fight in September 1938 and to make the great sacrifice for the peace of Europe. After learning many facts about this, I understand this even better today than on September 19, 1938, when the French-British Plan was presented to me for the first time. France and Great Britain still had to prepare for the coming events. I think that in those years only Germany, the USSR and the CSR were prepared for a war. I had no doubts about the preparation of the ČSR. We had big sources and they had been mobilized. During our preparations we received diplomatic proposals from Berlin. Three times we strongly rejected Hitler's offers. We replied that we will do nothing without the knowledge of the League of Nations and the powers with which the ČSR has treaties and alliances. Hitler made us & secret suggestions. On Oct.1936, he sent two representatives to Prague with a secret mission. They suggested that I conclude a mutual non-aggression pact with Hitler, a pact similar to that which Hitler had concluded with Pilsudski on January 26, 1943. It should be an 'absolute secret pact', finally concluded between both heads of state, i.e. between Hitler and me. The other governments should not be informed about this until everything would be completed. I asked Hitler's emissaries for a deadline. They returned to Prague on 8 D 1936 and I granted them an audience of 7 students. I asked them what our duties were to France, with which we have a mutual assistance treaty.
