nt Lt. Dr. Walter Hergl Leipzig, 10.11. 1941. Draft lecture. E u r o p ä i s c h e s Becoming. FAARERREE My comrades ! Anyone who pays attention to this will find out everywhere that today in the German people in general, especially in the case of the German soldier, the interest also in foreign policy issues has grown immensely. In particular, the war with Russia has stimulated and heightened this interest with its completely new influence and its enormous outlooks, which have blown up all previous standards anew, by repeatedly raising the question of what should actually become after the war, how the newly opened rooms should also be mastered in the field of organization and the like more. It is always very pleasing to note that this interest in the broadest masses of our people does not come only from the individual and its direct share in the events. Certainly, this aspect, too, does not play an unwarranted role. For the individual, it is not indifferent to what influence war and politics have on his own existence, what pressures (duration of war, etc.) or also what new favourable prospects arise for him. However, in general, today the thinking prevails, which does not go from the individual but from the common good, from the fate of the whole people and serves this purpose. Thus, the growing interest in foreign policy is only good and fully justified, because today, more than ever before, the German people say: "Leader, let us follow!"
