2k Dr. B e r t s c h inlsteramt Prague, 6th December 1944. - 7th DEC 1944 : Strictly confidential! To -Obergruppenführer Minister of State Frank. 78712 Gauleiter Dr. J u r y had asked me to go to the party liaison office on 1st December of the year. He asked me if it would be possible to provide him lo ooo Czechs for ski jumping work. It was a measure which had been transferred to him as Gauleiter von Niederdonau by Reichsleiter Borman and was outside Bohemia and Moravia. However, it was not finally decided whether these ski jumping works would be carried out. It is also conceivable that part of the work in the Protectorate would be carried out, at some distance from Olmütz.' Even then, as Gauleiter, the measure would be entrusted to him, since the ski jumping works would not be performed by the Reich Defence Commissioners (in the Protectory of the German Minister of State), but by the Gauleiters as sovereigns of the party. He replied that this question had to be discussed first with Mr Frank, Minister of State. As Minister for Economic Affairs and Labour, Jch was merely a implementing body acting according to the instructions of the German Minister of State.' Jch could only notice what the number of workers required was=long, that the workers could only be employed if other measures were temporarily stopped or at least restricted. This is also the case with ski jumping work in the rest of the Reich. The way in which the workers are employed and supervised is also a matter for the German Minister of State.
