79 Czech lessons at the German schools of the Protectorate. Sachbearb:Fitzek Mitbearb.: Fielitz, Peterschilka. A) Facts I.Volksschulen No Czech lessons are introduced at the lower level of the elementary schools, in the 1st to 4th years of school. Until the 8th year of school, the Czech language class with 3 hours is the weekly elective subject under the following conditions: 1.) The class may only be set up if at least 12 pupils have registered for it. 2.) Only those pupils who have the certificate "very good" or "good" in German may take part. 3.) The teacher who gives Czech lessons must have the teaching qualification for Czech. II. Civic schools In all years 4 hours of Czech instruction are introduced. III. Upper secondary schools and secondary schools The former Real Gymnasiums, Reform-Realgymnasias and Real Schools have been located since the beginning of the school year l938/39 in order to align themselves with the Reich into the German upper secondary school for boys (girls). The former Gymnastics School is transferred to the special form "Gymnium für Jungen". Up to the end of the school year 1938/39_ Czech was 1st foreign language and began with a high number of hours in the 1st class. At the beginning of the year 1939/40 the Czech fell in the 1., with the start of school year l940/41 in the 2. In the first year of the school year 1941/42, the Czech should also fall into the third class. It is now questionable whether it is finally from the 4th class, so that Czech is now taught from the 3rd class at all upper schools and high schools, but with a much lower number of hours than before (2 or 3 hours). In the latter case, it would be necessary to start the training course at the German secondary schools and colleges.
