Mgnche left parties thus developed into a social left radicalism, which, as we know, then split almost all continental democratic peoples into two irreconcilable camps and even brought about or helped to bring about the fall of democracies. The development of the present-day denocracy into social and economic democracy, as I have already indicated above, will have a certain nivellization of the social classes and the alimah development of today's society with vertical structure (in higher and lower classes) to a society with horizontal structure (one at a time, with more favourable and less rival social groups). In such a society the political parties will be much less able to threaten the state and national unity through their mutual struggle; they will also be much fewer targets of their selves and will not rule by name; their control as a guarantee of political freedom and freedom of persuasion will suffice them. And it will be a great task and, in view of the social levelling of the future society, a beautiful and humanly exalted task. Under this condition, it will become possible to realize one of the essential demands of the new post-war democracy, a necessary one and by the new
