All of this was never a fundamental, nor a single intervention in the principle of ownership of the means of production and private capitalist profit; but it has always been the most pronounced and, as far as character is concerned, very important argument in the struggle over some important centers of production on the part of the individual capitalists, whereby the private profit flowed not into the tasohs of the individuals, but into the state, city, public funds. It was certainly a step towards the socio-economicization of democratic society and a certain kind of rather far-reaching compromise with reformist socialism.
