III. The deposits. In total, the savings banks in Bohemia and Moravia at the end of 1940 had deposits in current account in the amount of Kr. 1,769.3 million,--. Of which: Böhmen K 1,177,080.000,- - " Moravia " 288,552,000,- and " the two association savings banks 11 303,678,000,-. At the same time, the saving deposits amounted to K 11,354,422,000, -. The following are involved: Bohemia with K 8,104,989,000,-- Moravia " " 2,347,701,000,- - and the association savings banks with " 901,732,000,-. In recent years the deposit movement was not particularly favorable. At the end of l937, the entire Czechoslovak savings banks had regained their maximum stock of deposits of 1932 with about 22 billion K. The year l936 had brought a decline, while 1937 resulted in an increase of 3.76% of the beginning of the year. Of lasting retroactivity, the events of 1938 and 1939 were explained. They led to a moratorium. Afterwards, from September 30, 1938 onwards, there was a temporary reduction in the disbursements. In principle, only Kc 1,50O,-- and the savings banks, cooperatives and advance funds Kc 5oo,- could be distinguished per week. It can be noted that the difficulties faced by the national money institutions were fortunately the least difficult with the savings funds. This moratorium was gradually relaxed after special arrangements had already been introduced for certain payments, such as tax payments, payments for wages and salaries. However, it should not be forgotten that even today, apart from the political effects, there is still a certain degree of restraint among the inhabitants of the Pro- tectorate with regard to the payment of savings and liquid funds.
