NnSI 827 & SEP. 1944 bvV Subject: Closing of the trial against Prof. Dr. Strauss. Report to the Minister of State 4Obergruppenführer Karl Hermann Fr a n k with the request for information. With today's day, the trial of Professor Dr. Strauss should find its proper conclusion in the form of the plaidoyer and the verdict. However, this proper conclusion was prevented by Strauss' having put an end to his life on the night from yesterday to today. The Strauss trial was therefore ended with the following statement by the President of the Court of War, Supreme Judge of Gramatzki: "Today I was informed of what has just been confirmed to me by further reports that the defendant Strauss committed suicide between 1l and 1/2 noon tonight. The court deeply regrets that the defendant has thus withdrawn himself from earthly justice and has avoided the death sentence expected by the main trial with certainty. With regard to the great sensation that the events in Vlashim have caused in the broadest circles and with regard to their great bitterness, which they caused at the Patien- 4.44th in Vlaschim, it would have been urgently desirable if the question of guilt of these things had been settled by a court judgment. This is no longer possible, since the laws provide for a trial and a portion only against the living. I therefore close the main trial." I ask for information.
