14 L e b e n s l au f Walter Erich H e i n z S c h l a d i t z , Dresden A l9,Heubnerstr. I was born on 9 September 1908 as the 4th child of the typewriter Max Schladitz and his wife Therese Schladtz née Mehnert in Leipzig. After four years at the Xth Bürgerschule (Volksschule) in Leipzig, I attended the 2nd Realschule (current Ostwaldschule) at Leipzig-Reudnitz for 6 years. I left the Realschule at Easter 1 925 after I had passed my maturation examination with the certificate of maturity. My parents could not correspond to my wish to become a teacher because of lack of money. So I became a merchant and joined the glass wholesaler Gebr. Hirsch Nachf., Leipzig, as an apprentice. After three years of teaching, I stayed with this company for 5 years as an assistant, and then, after taking power, entered the full-time services of the party. In addition to my professional activities, I worked as a youth leader at an early stage, first in the Colonial Youth League (G.J.B.) and then in the D.H.V. Politically I worked in the German People's Republic. On 29 July I joined the NsDAP and received the membership number 66040. From 1 January 1929 to 30 June 193l I was successively local group leader, district leader and Gauführer of the Hitler youth. Since mid-193l, I worked elsewhere in the party, took part in a lecture course and was district press officer of the NSBO. After the takeover of the trade unions, I was initially appointed as a member of the NSDaP. in the Leipzig Volkshaus and was then appointed on 1 October 1933 to lead the propaganda and press department in the Gaubetriebszellen-Abt. and Gauwaltung of the DAF. Since then, I have been continuously as Gau Propaganda and Press Manager of DAF and NS. "Power through joy"; also honorary crooks, crooked speakers and Sohriftleiter (list A). -2-
