After four years at the local civic school (Volksschule) in Leipzig I attended the 2nd Realschule (now Ostwaldschule) to Leipzig-Reudnitz for 6 years. At Easter I left the real school with the certificate of maturity after passing the maturing examination. My desire to become a teacher could not be fulfilled by my parents because of lack of money. So I became a merchant and joined the glass-gross shop Gebr.Hirsch Nachf.Leipzig as a teacher. After three years of teaching, I stayed with this company for another 5 years as an assistant, then, after taking power, I entered the full-time services of the party. In addition to my profession, I worked as a youth leader at an early stage, first in the Colonial Youth League and then in the DHv. Politically, I already participated in l925 in the Deutschvölk. Schutz- und Trutzbund and in the "Bund Sachsen im Reich". On 29 July 1927 I entered the NSDAP hei and received the member number 66040. From l.Jan.1929 to 30 June l93l I was successively local group leader, district leader and Gauführer Nordwestsachsen of the Hitlerjugend. Since mid-1931, I have been working in the party elsewhere, taking part in a speaker's course and serving as district propaganda and press officer of the NsBo. After the takeover of the unions, I was initially appointed as the NSBo's commissioner in the Leipzig Volkshaus and was then appointed to the L.Okt.l933 as head of the propaganda and media department in the Gau-Betriebszellen-Abt. Since then, I have been working as a Gau-Propaganda- und Pressewalter of the DAF and NSG "Kraft durch Preude"; I have also been an honorary Gauredner, Gaufachredner and Schrift-leiter. In addition to my multifaceted propagandist work, I was always particularly interested in all cultural things (thea- ter, pilm, funk, etc.) and also worked accordingly, among other things in the execution of numerous large events. On 1 March l940, the Gauleiter Mutschmann also volunteered me with the management of the Gaupresseamt of the NSDAP -2-
